A New Horizon for Scholarship

Every discipline begins with a horizon — a line where the known meets the possible. Today, we are proud to step toward ours. Welcome to Horizon Academic Press.

Horizon Academic Press is an independent scholarly publisher, founded in Kampala, Uganda, with an unapologetically international outlook. We begin from a simple conviction: that important research emerges from every region, discipline and community — and that a scholar's geography, institution or resources should never determine whether their work is seen, trusted, or able to shape the world.

What we are building

We are building a home for scholarship that is rigorous, transparent and open. Every manuscript will pass through structured, confidential peer review. Every article will be freely available to read the moment it is published, under a Creative Commons licence, with authors retaining copyright in their own work. And every version of record will be preserved — as a typeset PDF and machine-readable JATS XML — so that the record we help create endures.

These are not features. They are commitments:

• Integrity first. We hold authors, reviewers and editors to the highest ethical standards, guided by the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics.
• Access without barriers. Open access is not an add-on but a foundation; knowledge that cannot be reached cannot do its work.
• Transparency by default. Clear policies, honest editorial decisions, and a scholarly record that others can verify and build upon.
• Inclusion as principle. A global record of knowledge should reflect the full diversity of human inquiry.

Our first journal

We are delighted to launch with our flagship title, the Horizon Journal of Psychology — an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal advancing psychological science through rigorous, transparent and impactful research across the breadth of the discipline. It is the first of what we intend to become a considered, high-quality family of journals.

An invitation

A press is only as strong as the community that gathers around it. So this first post is, above all, an invitation.

To authors: bring us your most careful, most ambitious work, and we will meet it with a fair, rigorous and respectful process. To reviewers and editors: lend us your judgement and your generosity; peer review is scholarship's quiet act of stewardship. To readers: everything we publish is yours, freely, from the day it appears.

Advancing knowledge across horizons is not a tagline for us. It is the work.
