Our standard
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, and we work to improve the experience for everyone as our platform develops.
Measures we take
- Semantic, well-structured HTML with headings and landmarks, and a "skip to content" link on every page.
- Keyboard-accessible navigation with visible focus states.
- Text alternatives for meaningful images, and captions or descriptions where appropriate.
- Attention to colour contrast, and resizable, responsive text that reflows on small screens.
- Articles published in readable HTML and machine-readable JATS XML as well as PDF.
Known limitations
Some third-party content or older documents may not yet be fully accessible. Where we identify such content, we work to remediate it or to provide an accessible alternative on request.
